Entries Open for 2018 Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort Challenge

Entries to one of the iconic one day events on the Western Cape mountain biking calendar, the Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort Mountain Bike Challenge open today at 12:00. The 2018 event will take place on Saturday the 29th of September with title sponsors, Ladismith Cheese, and organisers, Dryland Event Management, adding a festive race village and a trail run to the proceedings to ensure next year’s event is the best yet.

For 2018 the highlight of the event will remain the 85 kilometre main distance, which ascends and descends through the beautiful Seweweekspoort. The poort is one of only two natural pathways, along with Meiringspoort, through the majestic Swartberg Mountain range. It allows entrants to the Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort Mountain Bike Challenge to start in the Klein Karoo, ride into the Great Karoo and then back into the Klein Karoo inside of a manageable race distance.

The mountain bike races at the Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort Mountain Bike Challenge also include the 43 and 29 kilometre race distances; with both featuring school’s mountain bike races after the successful pilot of the concept for primary schools in the 29 kilometre distance in 2017. The Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort School’s Mountain Bike Challenge will award points, for their age group positions, to the top five students from each school in the high and primary schools divisions – with the top scoring schools in each category winning hampers, a cash prize and a floating trophy. The inaugural primary schools’ champions, Outeniqua Primary School, had to hold off the challenge of schools from as far away as Port Elizabeth and the West Coast to claim the 2017 title; which augers well for an even more competitive schools’ race in 2018.

The new additions to the schedule for 2018 include a lively race village feel to registration on Friday the 28th of September. Facilitating this will be live music and a steak dinner on Friday evening in the marquee tents at the Shalom Academy. Also on Friday, trail runners will now be able to take part in the Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort Challenge fun, as Dryland Event Management are introducing a 6 kilometre fun run and a 12 kilometre trail run to the event.

Entries to the 2018 Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort Challenge open at 12:00 on Tuesday the 21st of November and the first one hundred and fifty entrants, to the 85 and 43 kilometre distances, will receive a VIP Biogen goodie bag. While all entrants before the 31st of December, to the 85 and 43 kilometre distances, until receive a Ladismith Cheese 7Weekspoort MTB Challenge cap.
