Meerendal CBC Ladies MTB Riders Sweeps FNB W2W Race Title

Meerendal CBC Ladies riders reclaimed the Wines 2 Whales race title in the women’s category at Onrus Caravan Park in Hermanus this past weekend. Jennie Stenerhag and Adelheid Morath took the sort after title after achieving a day one victory and taking second place on day two and three of the three-day mountain biking race event. The day one triumph and second place achievments, together with consistent riding, secured the Meerendal CBC team overall success.

Before delivering their masterful performances, Stenerhag recalls saying to Adelheid, “usually this is won on the first day”. It was this strategic thinking and the duo’s resilience that ushered them to first place. Stenerhag added, “Even though it was only by 20 seconds, we were able to keep the lead.”

CBC is the exclusive beer sponsor at the FNB Wines 2 Whales MTB event. “We celebrate another win for the inspiring duo. These ladies demonstrate what it means to be bold and daring, which are values that CBC shares. We’re looking forward to continue supporting the team.” Said CBC COO, Andy Kung.

Swedish born competitive skier, roadie and now mountain biking champion, Jennie Sternerhag, has become a Stellenbosch legend. She found her love for mountain bike riding six years after she stopped skiing. She was hooked on riding when she finished the “Swedish classic,” and it was around the same time that she came to South Africa for the first time and she fell equally in love with the country. She subsequently returned to Sweden to quit her job, and as they say, the rest has become history in the making.

Adelheid Morath is an internationally known powerhouse. The German cross-country mountain biker is well known for finishing 16th place at the 2012 Summer Olympics and finishing 18th place at the 2008 Olympics. The two-time Olympian has also participated in the 2015 Swiss Epic and has completed the 2016 Cape Epic. Previous teammates revere Morath for her consistent commitment, and she is commended for being a great rider who is an excellent climber and is a regular top 10 finisher at XCO World Cups.

Kung added “We love being apart of this great event and look forward to being the exclusive beer sponsor at FNB Wine2Whales 2018.
