Because it is the most accessible, Cross-Country (symbol XCO for X Cross, C for Country, O for Olympic) is the most practised and common MTB discipline around the world, both for amateurs and competitors. Cross-Country became an Olympic sport in 1996 in Atlanta. It is raced on a closed trail where riders do several laps. Elite (men & women) races last about 1h 30min, whereas the under-23 category race lasts for about 1h 15min.

The goal is to race on the trail which rises and falls and alternates technically complicated sections and steep climbs. XCO performance requires endurance, force and agility.

Unlike downhill which is a race against the clock with individual starts, XCO uses mass starts. Since 2018 the starting grid has been determined by a qualifying round (XCC: also called Short Track). The aim is to re-deal the cards because in the past it was exclusively the general ranking of the World Cup that determined the starting grid.

The Les Gets course is 3.8 km long with 140 metres of slope. It respects current XCO standards while remaining loyal to old-fashioned racing traditions with its share of natural sections. The riders do seven laps on Carry, right by the village much to the delight of the spectators!
