Salpeterkrans MTB Trails

Salpeterkrans Fly Fishing Estate is situated on 2 000 hectares close to Draaikraal and Roossenekal in the Steenkamps Mountains. The Steenkamps Mountain Pass is, at 2 331 metres above sea level, the highest peak in Mpumalanga and its catchment area feeds the Klip River with clear cold water of which 10 kilometres meanders through the Salpeterkrans Estate. This area is rich in history and the flora and birdlife are exceptional. The owner has identified more than 24 mammal species and 70 bird species. [div2 class=”highlight1″]

On your bike

There are three mountain-bike trails to choose from, as well as a network of farm and district roads. The Steenkamps Mountain Trail is 45 kilometres long and takes you right up to the highest peak in Mpumalanga. The Mapochs Trail is also 45 kilometres long and passes the site where the Ndebele captain lived. The Klip River trail is 34 kilometres long and, though shorter, requires a certain degree of fitness as it goes to the top of the plateau on scenic off-roads.
