2020 PwC Great Zuurberg Trek
Come experience rugged trails, strenuous climbs and epic descents in the 2020 PwC Great Zuurberg Trek. Mountain bikers will be treated to three days of scintillating riding, luxurious Eastern Cape hospitality and the camaraderie of a compact group of like-minded riders. Taking place from 29 to 31 May the race covers a total of 209 kilometres and explores the Zuurberg Mountains, the Sundays River Valley and the ever increasingly storied Hayterdale Trails.
“We do cater for the racer, but I think the PwC Great Zuurberg Trek has more to offer than just racing” event co-owner Siska van der Bijl revealed. “It’s about meeting new people in the small field, making new friends and enjoying the adventure. The landscape and trails are so diverse; we try to match that with the post-stage treats for the riders. The type of riders we believe should enter the race are those who have ticked the box of sleeping in a tent on a mattress on the ground at a stage race and are now looking for something more luxurious. The Eastern Cape has more to offer than most people realise and we try to always showcase the province, its people and the landscape at its best. It is not an easy race, but it is rewarding!”
To challenge and reward yourself in May 2020 enter the PwC Great Zuurberg Trek. Entries are limited to just 250 riders and open on 10 June 2019. To secure a spot in South Africa’s boutique mountain bike race visit www.greatzuurbergtrek.co.za.

The 2020 Dr Evil Classic is set to take place from Thursday 17th to Saturday 19st of September. Riders will once again be treated to three days of exceptionally scenic Garden Route mountain biking with each stage starting and finishing in a unique location near Plettenberg Bay.
The opening stage and registration will once again be hosted by the Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve, where big game sightings are guaranteed in the early and final kilometres of the stage. Stage 1 is the longest and arguably the most challenging of the race at 71 kilometres in length with 1 400 meters of climbing – but the views over the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains more than make up for any difficulties.
Stage 2 starts and finishes on the manicured fields of the Kurland Hotel and Polo Estate. The second day’s route is a manageable 45 kilometres in length and includes 980 meters of climbing though plantations and indigenous forests. In 2019 10 kilometres of new singletrack was added to the final section of the day’s route and 2020 riders can expect that number to increase as Kurland continues to add to their trail network.
The final stage of the race is hosted by the Cairnbrogie Farm and boasts the area’s best singletracks. Coastal and forest trails make up the bulk of the 51-kilometre route which takes in 800 meters of climbing though the Harkerville Forest section of the Garden Route National Park.
Entries to the Dr Evil Classic are open and the entry packages include dinner at registration on Wednesday the 16th of September, as well as lunches on all three race days. Supporter meal tickets can be purchased for non-riding guests too, which helps make the Dr Evil Classic a family friendly event.
In 2020 entries will be limited to 350 riders and the entry fees of R4 350 for solo entries and R8 700 for teams of two apply. To enter the 2020 Dr Evil Classic please visit www.drevilclassic.com; or email Zandile at firstname.lastname@example.org, to avoid the online entry administration fee.
