Riding in the memory of Yannic Corinth, a German national rowing team member, took his life without warning.
Met these two amazing young men, who are highlighting the veiled disease of depression by riding the Cape Epic in honour of their friend Yannic who took his life. Depression is a real and often unspoken about disease which affects athletes who are often perceived to be healthy. In bringing recognition to the disease and creating an environment in which athletes feel safe enough to express their feelings, the fight will hopefully stop the loss of lives from a disease which can be managed.

Here is their story – On 6 June 2016, Yannic Corinth, a former squad athlete of the German national rowing team, took his life without warning. He left next to his family a stunned circle of friends from the rowing and cycling, the Yannic firmly believed in his midst and had many plans together with him.
Among the common plans was the mountain bike race Cape Epic 2017 in South Africa, for which Yannic was registered. Together with his former rowing partner Lars Wichert, he wanted to complete the stage race over almost 700 kilometers and about 13,500 vertical meters through the breathtaking nature of South Africa. But the disease of depression thwarted his lifelong dream. In order to commemorate Yannic and to process this stroke of fate, Olympiaruderer Lars, together with former national rowing rider Philipp Birkner, took part in the so-called “Tour de France des Mountainbikesports”. The two friends drove the seven hard stages for Yannic to the finish line and aroused much interest with their social commitment.
The Cape Epic as a platform for the education and Enttabuisierung of the common illness depression was brought to life and was to find as media-prominent highlight a fixed place in the calendar of events of Wirfueryannic registered association.
