- Your WhatsApp number when you use the “Claim my results” feature

3.2 Race results data
We collect and display publicly available race results from third-party results websites (such as mtbresults.co.za and race organisers’ websites). This includes rider names, finishing positions, times, and category information as published by race organisers.
3.3 Automatically collected information
- Website usage data (pages visited, time on site, browser type)
- Device information and IP address
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 7)
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Display your race results on the MTBApp Leaderboard
- Send you race result notifications and upcoming race reminders via WhatsApp (only if you have opted in by claiming your profile)
- Improve our website and services
- Respond to your enquiries
- Send you relevant MTB content and partner race promotions (only with your consent)
- Comply with legal obligations
5. WhatsApp Notifications
If you claim your rider profile via WhatsApp, you are consenting to receive:
- Personalised race result notifications after events you participated in
- Upcoming race reminders
- MTBApp partner race announcements
You can opt out at any time by sending STOP to our WhatsApp number. We will remove you from all notifications within 24 hours.
We use the Meta WhatsApp Business API to send messages. Your phone number is stored securely and is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
6. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:
- Race organisers who are MTBApp partners, for the purposes of race promotion and results verification (only aggregated or anonymised data unless you have specifically consented)
- Service providers who help us operate our platform (Vercel for hosting, Supabase for database services, Meta for WhatsApp messaging) — these providers are bound by data processing agreements
- Legal authorities if required by South African law
7. Cookies
We use cookies to improve your experience on our website. These include:
- Essential cookies required for the site to function
- Analytics cookies to understand how visitors use our site

8. Data Storage and Security

Race results data sourced from public results pages is treated as publicly available information.

These terms apply to all visitors, registered users, and anyone who accesses or uses our services.

3. Use of the Platform
3.1 Permitted use
You may use MTBApp for personal, non-commercial purposes to:
- Browse trail information and race content
- View leaderboard standings and race results
- Claim and manage your rider profile
- Share results and content via social media
3.2 Prohibited use
You may not:
- Scrape, copy, or reproduce our content in bulk without written permission
- Use our Platform for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of our systems
- Submit false or misleading information when claiming a rider profile
- Impersonate another rider or person
- Use automated tools to access or interact with the Platform without our consent
- Interfere with the proper functioning of the Platform
4. Rider Profiles and Claiming Results
4.1 Race results data
Race results displayed on MTBApp are sourced from publicly available results published by race organisers. We make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy but cannot guarantee that all results are complete or error-free.
4.2 Claiming your profile
When you claim a rider profile, you confirm that:
- You are the person named in the results you are claiming
- The contact information you provide is accurate
- You consent to receive WhatsApp notifications as described in our Privacy Policy
4.3 Disputes
If you believe a result has been incorrectly attributed to you, or that someone has claimed your profile without authorisation, contact us at hello@mtbapp.co.za and we will investigate promptly.
5. The MTBApp Leaderboard
5.1 Points and rankings
Leaderboard points are calculated based on finishing positions using our published points system. Rankings are updated after each race import. We reserve the right to adjust the points system at any time.
5.2 Partner races
Races marked as MTBApp Partner Races award double points to finishers. Partner status is determined by commercial agreements between MTBApp and race organisers. We reserve the right to add or remove partner status at our discretion.
5.3 Accuracy
While we strive for accuracy, leaderboard standings are dependent on the quality and completeness of source data from race organisers. MTBApp is not liable for errors or omissions in results data sourced from third parties.
6. WhatsApp Communications
By claiming your rider profile via WhatsApp, you opt in to receive notifications from MTBApp. You can opt out at any time by sending STOP to our WhatsApp number. We use the Meta WhatsApp Business API in accordance with Meta’s terms of service.
7. Intellectual Property
7.1 Our content
All original content on MTBApp — including text, graphics, logos, trail condition reports, articles, and the MTBApp Leaderboard interface — is owned by MTBApp or its content contributors and is protected by South African copyright law.
7.2 Your content
If you submit content to MTBApp (such as trail condition reports or comments), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, publish, and distribute that content on our Platform and social media channels.
7.3 Race results
Race results are factual data sourced from public records. We do not claim ownership of race results data itself, but our presentation, processing, and display of that data is our intellectual property.
8. Third-Party Content and Links
Our Platform may contain links to third-party websites including race organisers, results platforms, and sponsors. These links are provided for convenience only. MTBApp is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party websites.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
MTBApp is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding:
- The accuracy or completeness of race results or trail information
- The uninterrupted availability of the Platform
- The fitness of the Platform for any particular purpose
Trail conditions change rapidly. Always verify current trail conditions through official channels before riding. MTBApp trail condition reports are user-generated and informational only — ride at your own risk.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, MTBApp and its operators shall not be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform
- Errors or inaccuracies in race results or leaderboard standings
- Any decisions made based on trail condition information published on the Platform
- Loss of data or service interruptions
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold MTBApp harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Platform, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
