Is your Helmet out of date? #Mips #technology
Although no two crashes are identical, two main types of force — linear and rotational — are related to the majority of brain injuries. Most real-world impacts actually subject your brain to a combination of both linear and rotational forces.
If you ride a bike you should wear a helmet. That’s not news to anyone, but what is news is MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System). If you haven’t bought a helmet in the past year or two, it might be time to upgrade. And that means MIPS brain protection system.

MIPS is a third-party technology that allows the helmet shell to rotate relative to the liner and better absorb force in some kinds of impacts. Just as you would look for GoreTex or an equivalent licensed fabric in waterproof jackets, you should be looking for MIPS in your helmet – because there’s just no reason not to have it. At first MIPS-equipped helmets were expensive, but now it is available at all price points. MIPS was launched in 2001 by five biomechanical specialists at Sweden’s Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, but only became widely available in cycling helmets since 2014. It has been licensed to over 50 brands, and there are more than 200 helmets (including snow sports and others) with MIPS on the market today.
