Freedom Challenge

ABOUT

Twenty-seven years ago, Nelson Mandela was released unconditionally from prison, marking the end of his 27 year sentence behind bars. To celebrate this momentous occasion in South African history, cycling enthusiasts from around South Africa are encouraged to take part in the FREEDOM RACE; an exciting mountain biking event created to pay respect to Madiba’s legacy, while also promoting KZN’s unique Heritage Route and countryside.

Open to serious athletes and the family alike, the FREEDOM RACE offers riders beautiful and scenic routes and an important historical and cultural experience based on South Africa’s history. Riders can choose between two race options:

• A two-day team ride for more experienced cyclists (+/- 60km/day)
• A one-day family/individual ride over a shorter course (40km)
