The trail is about 40km and starts and finishes beside the Buffalo River. It retraces the route taken by fugitives from the battle of Isandlwana in 1879 when they fled back to Rorke’s Drift. Using gravel road, tracks and cross country trails in stunning scenery into and out of Zululand.
On your bike
The trail makes a good circuit when started at the hotel on the gravel road, from there go to Isandlwana battlefield and then come back cross country. The gravel road undulates and crosses three rivers. Return circuit is the old wagon trail which is eroded in places, track in other places and man made stone roadway in some. Beautiful countryside.
