The Hollard JOZI URBAN MTB ADVENTURE

The Hollard JOZI URBAN MTB ADVENTURE  has two separate routes in 2016; a 54km & 22km urban ride through the heart of the biggest urban forest in the World, our city Johannesburg! Partnering with City Parks and Johannesburg Zoo we have created a route that will take you on an adventure.

The inaugural race proved that the Juma is actually a technical race which requires more than a basic skill set on the mountain bike. Numerous injuries, some minor and a few serious (mountain biking is an extreme sport) were a part of the initial JUMA. Organizers have taken steps to address these problems. juma changes

The Hollard JOZI URBAN MTB ADVENTURE is an Urban playground in the city of gold, an adventure through all the areas we normally drive past and never see.

The adventure starts at Marks Park and will take you under highway bridges and flying over main roads with custom built scaffolding bridges.juma1

The journey continues on into one of Joburg’s most beautiful golf courses, through miniature rapids, rolling into storm water drains and venturing into the heart of darkness through a network of tunnels. This course will really show you what Johannesburg has to offer! juma12

54 Km: Please note “The Hollard JUMA 54km race is not for beginner riders, riders entering the 54km race must be sure of their riding skills and fitness levels on a bike”. Please remember to bring a bike light and or headlamp…700m Anatomic tunnel will be lit up but additional lighting will be necessary.

The 22km provides riders with mostly jeep track and some single track sections, over three exciting (but very safe) scaffolding ramp guaranteed to add the excitement expected from Hollard JUMA. The halfway point with a water hole peaks at Km 10 with a view of the whole Melville koppie ridge where riders will be able to see the 54km riders coming through the famous Melville koppies. The route has also been designed to include sections through reed and marshlands.
