Hats off to Lael Wilcox on becoming the first woman to finish the 2019 PEdALED Silk Road Mountain Race, taking second place overall, and setting a new women’s record with an incredible time of 7 days, 15 hours, and 23 minutes (7:15:23).
She finished just nine hours behind winner Jakub Sliacan (7:6:46) and nearly a full day faster than the inaugural 2018 record of 8 days, 8 hours, and 15 minutes, set by Jay Petervary.
“It’s the best I’ve ever felt in any race,” she said at the finish line, rolling into Cholpon Ata after a big day on the bike navigating the race’s final climb and sleeping just eight and a half minutes in full kit the previous night. Congratulations, Lael, on yet another astounding performance! Stay tuned for an interview from the finish line soon.
