MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE
A new addition to what is a festival weekend is the Pick n Pay Mathaithai Mountain Bike Race on Sunday 24 September in partnership with Rustenberg Cycling. Lebone College is a piece of the Bafokeng Nation, and maintains itself both as an institution which shines the light of education and shines with pride from the Bafokeng nation.
The Mathaithai MTB race gives the cyclist a choice of 4 x distances:
5km Junior Ride (R50)
10km Fun Ride (R100)
20km Let’s Get Lost (R150)
45km Challenge (R200)
The 45 kilometer marathon race is regarded as a fast race with only 600 meters of total vertical ascent. The race starts and finishes at the Lebone 11 College and the route covers dirt roads, jeep tracks and some exhilarating single track on both the northern and southern side outside the school premises. The race finishes with a ride over the 50 meter long floating bridge.
The shorter distances are safe and not to technical and are ideally suited for the very young ones and the novices that wants to experience cycling in the bush.
