Memel MTB Trails

Memel is a firm outdoor favourite with local travellers, and it is no wonder the outdoor crowd flock to this pristine little dorp. Nestled midway between the untouched Seekoeivlei Nature Reserve and the majestic Drakensberg, this natural paradise at the foot of Kranskop Mountain brims with a good 600km of gravel roads to explore on your bike.

A favourite with mountain bikers is the challenging 58km Kranskop 4×4 route. Head out of town to leave the tarmac behind, then crank all the way to Kranskop, following the border with KwaZulu-Natal along remote farm roads, passes and mountainous ridges.

Superb views of the escarpment, steep rocky downhills and a drift crossing or two add to an awesome crank. The dirt crossing or two add to an awesome crank. The dirt road dipping along the Klip River course makes for easier riding as you pass through rocky hills, mist-belt forest and wetlands famed for the world-class birding. Last but not least are the excellent dual-track routes in Seekoeivlei Nature Reserve.
