Mountain bikers excited to take on the Fedhealth MTB Challenge

Fed Health Mtb

Taking place at the majestic Boschendal Farm Estate (The Retreat) on Saturday 07 September 2019 (Kids Event) and Sunday 08 September 2019 (Main Event), the 5th annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge has attracted the attention of a number of SA’s leading sports enthusiasts including the likes of Jamie Penfold (defending champion in the Half Marathon), Michael Lord and Robyn Williams.

Jamie Penfold (Durbanville) will be gunning for his hat-trick victory in the Fedhealth MTB Challenge Half Marathon (+-30km).  “I’m attracted by the world class single track,” says Penfold.  “It is not often that the half marathon riders are treated to the amount and quality of single tracks that we get at the Fedhealth MTB Challenge.  If you are looking for a well-organized event with an amazing route this one is for you.  The single tracks are beautiful, the views of the valley are amazing and the route markings are good.  My goal on event day is to win of course.”

For mountain biker/triathlete, Michael Lord (Somerset West), the raw landscape and crazy amount of single track are what make the Fedhealth MTB Challenge iconic.  “Now that I am working and am not as fit, I wouldn’t be able to ride as much single track in one-go without the support (water stations) and added motivation that a race like this gives.  I am just looking forward to enjoying the trails while giving my all.”

I just love the route,” says Robyn Williams (Stellenbosch).  “It is incredibly challenging, but also a lot of fun. You’ll definitely deserve that post-race beer and pizza when you’re done!  I am heading off to the Himalayas soon to do an eight day MTB stage race and will be using the Fedhealth MTB Challenge as a gauge as to where my fitness is as well as to practice riding with my race partner under race conditions.  I’d definitely recommend this event to other mountain bikers as the route is absolutely amazing and the vibe at the finish line is awesome. Bring the whole family as there is something for everyone.”
