#Mtbgirls inspiring a new generation of athletes.

The worlds leading #mtbgirls have got together to promote the tough sport of mountain biking to women around the world. The initiative lead by world cup and world championship jersey holders Annika Langvad, Gunn Rita Dahl, Yolanda Neff, legends of the sport aims to raise awareness of the rewarding sport of mountain biking. There has been a worldwide drive to increase and improve the participation numbers of women in the sport. A male dominated sport which is tough and has numerous barriers to participation needs to improve its entry barriers to help the sport grow.

Across the South African market event organizers and retailers are turning to the ladies market to attempt to make the sport more appealing. Stage Races often see participation numbers at around 10%  and lower. The Cape Epic as been a forerunner in attracting elite women to their races, offering equal prize money, separate start bunches and really highlighting the strengths of women on mountain bikes. As a result the worlds best have flocked to the Cape Epic, elites such as the Specialized Team of  Kate Courtney (World Champion) and Annika Langvad (World Champion, World Cup).

Cross Country racing particularly in the ladies event has been super exciting the last couple of years, with contenders ranging all age groups and providing fantastic viewing.

The #Mtbgirls video was created by the following stars of mountain biking, Jolanda Neff, Maja Włoszczowska, Emily Batty, Annika Langvad, Anne Tauber, Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå, Yana Belomoina, Catherine Pendrel, Julie Bresset and Raiza Goulao  and they are inspiring everyone as they talk about their sport.
