Nyanga Mountain Bike Park
The Nyanga highlands in Zimbabwe’s Manicaland province are a revelation — a cool, green mountain environment at 1,800–2,592m that feels worlds apart from the rest of southern Africa. The Nyanga National Park encompasses dense pine plantation, indigenous montane forest, high moorland and the dramatic gorges of the Pungwe and Kairezi Rivers. It’s the kind of MTB terrain that SA riders specifically travel to experience.
The Trails
The 22km Pungwe Gorge Trail is the marquee route — descending from the plateau into the Pungwe Gorge via technical singletrack with the gorge dropping 800m below. The 18km Rhodes Nyanga Loop uses the historic forestry network around Rhodes Dam, with good singletrack sections through pine plantation and open moorland. The 15km Mtarazi Falls Track leads to the Mtarazi Falls viewpoint — the second highest waterfall in Africa at 762m drop — via ridable jeep track.
What Makes It Special
Zimbabwe’s Eastern Highlands are one of Africa’s undiscovered MTB destinations. Cool temperatures (15–22°C year-round), no crowds, affordable park fees, and genuinely dramatic terrain. The Nyanga Mountain Club runs regular weekend rides and welcomes visiting riders.
