Last Monday night, the Brazilian Henrique Avancini used his social networks to make public a reflection that he had already made known to the organizers of the Cape Epic last year after the controversy with the team of Nino Schurter.

Henrique Avancini has made his position clear before the Absa Cape Epic 2020
In the last edition of the Absa Cape Epic the Scott SRAM team went to the race with two couples, the one formed by Nino Schurter and Lars Forster, and that of Gert Heyn and Frischknecht, but also, he had a third support couple who did not It was his equipment, if not the DSV. Well, this third couple was decisive in the final victory of Schurter-Forster since they gave a wheel to Forster when in stage 3 he suffered a flat tire.

Now that we have put ourselves in the background we leave you the statement that Avancini made in his social networks and you will see how everything becomes relevant:
“At the moment we all know how important it is to have a backup team in the Epic.
For this year, our team thought of a way to find a solution and do what other teams did that were successful in the past. Having a backup team that is not part of the same ICU team.
Last year I exposed this problem to the organizers, trying to explain how unhealthy this was for our sport.
We have a fairly simple solution for something quite complex. I think the Cape Epic has the power to pressure teams to use backup cyclists (mechanical assistance) that are only under contract on the same UCI team.
This will create the need to have at least 4 elite runners per team and force large teams to take care of those additional runners throughout the season.
Which would contribute to a more equitable financial participation among the brokers and to create or maintain the next generation.
Who does that (having cyclists from other teams that support him), is not doing anything wrong at all (once he agrees with the rules), but from my point of view it is not good for MTB.
I still believe that “happy are those who are hungry for justice.”

Avancini’s proposal seems fairly fair, what do you think? We read you in our social networks
