Windhoek Trail Network — Avis Dam
Windhoek riders are remarkably well served — the Avis Dam trail network sits just 8km from the city centre and delivers genuine bushveld singletrack through rocky hillsides and acacia-dotted plains. The dam itself adds a scenic focal point, and wildlife sightings are common throughout.
The Trails
The 8km Avis Loop is the community ride — social pace, well-graded and ideal for introducing newcomers to Namibian terrain. The 14km Brakwater Singletrack is the local favourite, threading through denser acacia bush with technical rocky sections and a sustained climb to a viewpoint over the capital. The 20km Eros Mountain Trail is the benchmark — a challenging loop climbing into the Eros Mountains behind the dam with significant elevation gain and fast, rocky descents.
Local Scene
The Windhoek MTB Club (WMTBC) runs regular rides here on weekends and the route network continues to expand through volunteer building. Namibia’s national MTB championship has been hosted here multiple times.
Getting There
From Windhoek city centre take Robert Mugabe Avenue east, turn onto Avis Road, follow signs to Avis Dam. GPS: -22.5372, 17.1281.
