Victoria Falls MTB Trails — Zambezi National Park
Riding in the Zambezi National Park outside Victoria Falls is one of Africa’s truly bucket-list MTB experiences. The trails thread through dense jesse bush and mopane woodland alongside the Zambezi River — elephant herds are a daily presence, buffalo cross the paths, and giraffe browse above the acacia canopy. The roar and mist of Victoria Falls drifts over the park from the gorge, creating a backdrop unlike anything else on earth.
The Trails
The 18km Zambezi River Trail follows the river upstream from the falls, passing multiple hippo pools and river viewpoints through relatively flat, easy terrain — the most accessible route and ideal for the wildlife focus. The 22km Chamabondo Loop ventures deeper into the park interior, climbing onto slightly higher ground with views across the floodplains. The 8km Gorge Singletrack is the technical option — narrow singletrack above the Batoka Gorge downstream of the falls, with vertiginous views 100m+ down to the Zambezi rapids.
Guided Rides
Wild Horizons and Shearwater both run guided MTB tours in the park — strongly recommended given the presence of dangerous game. Bikes and helmets provided. Self-guided riding is possible on the Zambezi River Trail but always inform your lodge of your route and expected return time.
Getting There
From Victoria Falls town take the Zambezi Drive to the national park entrance gate. GPS: -17.9243, 25.8572.
