Livingstone’s position at the Zambezi gorge below Victoria Falls gives it extraordinary MTB terrain — the Batoka Gorge is a dramatic 120m-deep gash in the basalt, and the trails above and around it offer genuinely spectacular riding. The Mosi-oa-Tunya (Smoke That Thunders) National Park on the Zambia side is one of the smallest parks in Africa but contains the only free-roaming white rhino in Zambia — an extraordinary backdrop for singletrack riding.

The Trails

The 12km Knife Edge Loop crosses the famous Knife Edge Bridge above the Eastern Cataract, accessing gorge singletrack through dry forest with constant spray and thunder from the falls nearby. The 22km Mosi-oa-Tunya Singletrack is the park route — well-marked trails through the game area where white rhino, zebra, giraffe and buffalo are resident. The 21km Batoka Gorge Trail follows the gorge rim south, away from the tourist areas into more remote territory with spectacular views at every bend.

Getting There

Livingstone is 8km from the Zimbabwe border. The Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport has direct flights from Johannesburg (2 hours). GPS: -17.8616, 25.8543.
