Despite a slightly shorter route, mountain bikers will still be tested in the Liberty Waterberg Encounter which takes place near Bela Bela in Limpopo from June 9 to 11.

Andrew Hill, riding for TIB Insurance-Momsen Valley Light, will defend his PwC Great Zuurberg Trek title alongside Marco Joubert at the Zuurberg Mountain Village just outside Port Elizabeth at the weekend.

The third edition of the Bestmed Paarl MTB Classic is scheduled for Saturday 20 May 2017 and presents an unequalled off-road experience, traversing the Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve and some of the beautiful wine farms and orchards below the mountain as well as some wonderful single track at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate and the Taal Monument.

“Our aim is to cement this as Paarl’s premier mountain bike event and so we try to mix it up a bit. We try to find some great routes that we can not only use next year, but improve on.”

Two eager mountain bikers, Dan Manders and Morne Swanepoel will not allow their competitive spirit to be dampened by their inability to see. A true inspiration, both riders will attempt to conquer the revered 70km FNB Magalies Monster
