The Southern Cross Charity ride takes on Prince Albert pass today with 3000 m of climbing over 120km. We asked Hannele Steyn what she thought of the Cape Epic 2020 route.

“The 2020 Absa Cape Epic route might be a few kilometers shorter than previous years, but it is going to be a very challenging route in the sense of climbs and technical terrain.” HS

“I think your training prep should be proper endurance training with lots of hill sessions and to work on your technical skills.” HS

“I never pick a toughest day, because they are all tough in some or other way, whether it is ascent, technical, distance and even the weather can play a role, but there is one day with 2800 m of climbing which in any rider’s book, will be tough!” HS

“As important as training, is good nutrition and to keep your health and immune system in good shape.” HS Follow Hannele guidelines for nutrition on Passion4Wholeness

Last Lions Hannele Steyn and Mike Nixon are currently riding a base training block called the Southern Cross in order to highlight awareness for specific charities. You can join them daily and ride with these legends of the Cape Epic.

The “Southern Cross” is a 1600km, 15 day Mountain Bike route with 23 000m of climbing which showcases the Western Capes unique geographic diversity, its rugged mountains, remote deserts, scenic passes and pristine coastline.  The ride starts in historic Stellenbosch on 16th November 2019.

The rider’s goal is to complete the Southern Cross loop to kick off their Cape Epic 2020 base training whilst bringing awareness and raise important funds for both the Kingsley Holgate Foundation (KHF) and Blood Lions.
