The Believe Project is a special group who are creating an amazing legacy and supporting cancer treatment in association with the CHOC. Mtbapp have had the pleasure of taking part in one of their races at Northern Farms, extremely well organised and amazing people all riding with love and support in their hearts.. Enter this race… This is their story..
Our Mission
The mission of the Believe Project is to raise funds to help support children suffering with cancer. We have aligned ourselves with the CHOC Cows and everything we raise goes directly to CHOC.
How the Believe Project began…
When our son, brother and friend, Craig Bainbridge was diagnosed with cancer, we started the Believe Project in order to raise funds to cover his treatment, and the support we received from friends and family was overwhelming.
In September 2009, before we knew Craig had cancer, his brother Marc, committed to cycling the Momentum 94.7 cycle challenge, in a cow suit, on an ice-cream bike in order to raise funds for CHOC through the Cows. Before the race took place, Craig was diagnosed and cancer became a close reality to the family.
CHOC is a wonderful organization that provides care for children being treated for cancer, by housing them in CHOC homes, transporting them to hospitals for chemotherapy, upgrading oncology wards at Government hospital, among other wonderful innovations.
Following on from that and in order to help raise funds for Craig’s radiation, Marc cycled 2600km from Nelspruit to Johannesburg, then on to Durban and to Cape Town, setting out on the 12th of April in a project called, “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.”
With sponsorship from Garmin, the company that he works for, and many of their clients, family, friends, and perfect strangers that he met along his journey, Marc was able to raise over R70 000 towards Craig’s treatment.
During the 18 months Craig fought cancer, we realized the extreme cost of this disease to other families, both emotionally and financially. We realized that everyone with a loved one fighting cancer needs financial and emotional support and so we promised to continue with the Believe Project after Craig’s fight ended on 8 April 2011., in order to both honour him and to serve others.

The Believe Team
How we have grown! After Craig was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, one brother’s love changed it all, Marc became the Believe Rider when he cycled to Cape Town for Craig. Due to the funds he raised and the awareness he created for CHOC more and more friends and family members have joined the call to support CHOC through the Cows and their love of cycling, swimming, and sport in general. The team of one has become a team of many, taking on the mighty Trans Baviaans. We are now proud to have a team of 13 BELIEVE Riders who form “Team Believe” all riding in Craig’s memory. He would be so proud.
