Karkloof 10km Family Route

Karkloof is one of the KZN midlands’ most celebrated destinations — the Karkloof Conservancy protects a significant area of indigenous Podocarpus forest and grassland in the hills above Howick, and the MTB trail network built through this environment is among the finest in KwaZulu-Natal. The 10km Family Route introduces all ages to the Karkloof forest singletrack experience.

What to Expect

Smooth, flowing singletrack on flat to gently rolling terrain through the Karkloof indigenous forest. Well-built and clearly waymarked — appropriate for children on proper bikes and beginners discovering singletrack. The forest setting is genuinely magnificent and the birdsong in the Karkloof is exceptional — it’s worth pausing regularly to listen.
