Port Edward Coastal Route
Port Edward is KwaZulu-Natal’s southernmost coastal town — on the KZN-Eastern Cape border where the Mzimvubu River marks the boundary between the provinces. The 18km Coastal Route explores the clifftop and coastal terrain around the town with consistent Indian Ocean views and the character of the south coast-Wild Coast transition zone.
What to Expect
Coastal singletrack and gravel paths on gently rolling clifftop terrain. The south coast’s characteristic subtropical vegetation — dense coastal bush, wild banana and the lush green of the KZN coast — lines the trail with the Indian Ocean visible throughout. The border with the Wild Coast gives the landscape a wilder, less developed character than the central south coast.
Getting There
Port Edward is on the R61 at the KZN-Eastern Cape border. GPS: -31.0523, 30.2234.
