Cathkin Trails Red Route
The Cathkin Trails Red Route extends the blue trail system into the more demanding terrain of the Drakensberg foothills above Champagne Valley. At 35km with technical rocky sections and sustained climbing, this is one of the more challenging trails in the Central Drakensberg area — the altitude, technical demands and distance combine for a serious advanced ride.
What to Expect
Technical singletrack and rocky mountain tracks on advanced terrain with significant elevation gain. The higher sections of the red route deliver the best escarpment views in the Cathkin trail system — on clear days the full extent of the Drakensberg wall from Champagne Castle to Cathedral Peak is visible. Technical rocky descents require confidence and skill.
