Dragon’s Peak Short Loop
Dragon’s Peak is one of the Central Drakensberg’s most dramatic mountain features — a series of sharp rocky peaks that form a distinctive silhouette visible across the entire Champagne Valley area. The 18km Short Loop explores the lower slopes and foothills terrain below the peak on gravel tracks and mountain paths with consistent escarpment views.
What to Expect
Gravel tracks and mountain paths on moderately hilly Drakensberg foothills terrain. The Dragon’s Back ridge dominates the western skyline throughout and the high-altitude grassland and rocky terrain create a riding environment of exceptional natural quality. Eland, mountain reedbuck and grey rhebok are commonly encountered on the open grassland slopes.
Getting There
Access from the Champagne Valley area via Winterton. GPS reference: -29.0234, 29.3712.
