Fezile Dabi Farmland Loop

The Fezile Dabi Farmland Loop explores the agricultural flatlands of the Fezile Dabi District in the northern Free State — one of South Africa’s most productive farming regions, where maize, sunflowers and wheat cover the plains in a patchwork of seasonal colour. The 40km gravel loop follows farm roads through this working landscape on a ride that’s as much about the agricultural scenery as the cycling.

What to Expect

Flat to gently rolling terrain on gravel farm roads. The riding is not technically demanding but the distance and exposure to Highveld weather conditions make it a genuine intermediate effort. Sunflower fields in late summer (February–March) create spectacular golden vistas that compensate for the limited topography.

Practical Notes

This is working farmland — close all gates, stay on farm roads and be aware of agricultural vehicles and livestock. The area has minimal shade so heat management is important in summer. Start early and carry sufficient water.
