Midlands Meander Short Loop

The KZN Midlands Meander is one of South Africa’s most celebrated craft and lifestyle routes — 48 arts and crafts studios, farm restaurants, cheese makers, breweries and accommodation establishments linked by the scenic farm roads of the KZN midlands between Pietermaritzburg and Mooi River. The 30km Short Loop explores the most accessible section of this iconic route by mountain bike.

What to Expect

Gravel farm roads on flat to gently rolling midlands terrain. The focus is on the cultural and culinary landscape as much as the riding — plan for multiple stops at studios, restaurants and viewpoints along the route. The midlands scenery is consistently beautiful: misty hills, wattle and acacia trees, dairy farms and the pastoral character of one of South Africa’s most beloved touring routes.

Meander Highlights

The Nottingham Road area in particular has excellent artisanal food and drink producers — the Nottingham Road Brewing Company and the area’s cheese makers are essential stops. Factor in time to browse studios and enjoy the Midlands hospitality.
