Sasolburg Vaal River Trail

Sasolburg is better known for petrochemicals than mountain biking, but the Vaal River corridor on the city’s doorstep delivers a quality 25km intermediate ride that surprises most visitors. Riverine singletrack and gravel paths follow the Vaal through lush vegetation and riverside grassland, creating a green escape that contrasts completely with the industrial character of the town.

What to Expect

The trail follows the Vaal River on compacted dirt singletrack and gravel paths through riverine vegetation. Terrain is flat to gently rolling on the river flats with some short climbs onto the adjacent riverbanks. The riding is intermediate in effort and the river environment is genuinely pleasant — water, trees and birdlife create a quality trail atmosphere.
