Memel Mahem Guest House Loop
Memel is one of the Free State’s best-kept riding secrets — a tiny village in the northeast of the province on the Kwazulu-Natal border, surrounded by extraordinary wetland systems and open Highveld grassland. The Memel Mahem Guest House has developed a 30km loop through this landscape that has attracted dedicated MTB visitors from across South Africa.
What to Expect
Gravel farm roads and singletrack wind through the Memel wetlands and surrounding Highveld terrain. The riding is intermediate in effort with the wetland crossings and grassland sections providing constant interest. The birdwatching is exceptional — the Memel wetlands are one of the Free State’s premier birding areas with cranes, waders and raptors throughout.
