Kamberg Forest Loop

Kamberg Nature Reserve is one of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s most beautiful midlands reserves — a protected area in the Kamberg Valley at the foot of the Drakensberg foothills protecting indigenous forest, afromontane grassland and the upper reaches of the Mooi River. The 20km Forest Loop explores the reserve’s forest and grassland terrain with consistent Drakensberg views.

What to Expect

Forest tracks and mountain paths on moderately rolling to hilly reserve terrain. The indigenous forest sections — dense Podocarpus forest in the valley kloofs — are the highlight, transitioning to open afromontane grassland on the higher sections with panoramic Drakensberg views. Eland, mountain reedbuck, oribi and grey rhebok are regularly sighted on the grassland sections. The reserve’s trout fishing adds a post-ride option.
