Albert Falls Amble

Albert Falls Dam is KwaZulu-Natal’s largest inland water body and the centrepiece of the Albert Falls Public Resort — an Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife managed reserve 25km north of Pietermaritzburg. The 20km Amble follows gravel tracks and singletrack along the dam’s shoreline through the characteristic KZN midlands landscape of rolling green hills, acacia woodland and the rich birdlife of the Mgeni River valley.

What to Expect

Gravel tracks and singletrack on gently rolling to moderately hilly dam shoreline terrain. Impala, nyala, bushbuck and warthog are resident in the reserve and frequently encountered on the trail. The dam provides constant water views and the birdlife — fish eagles, kingfishers, herons and waterbirds — is exceptional. The Mgeni River valley visible from the higher sections creates a scenic backdrop throughout.
