Bisley Reserve Loop
Bisley Nature Reserve is a compact indigenous bush reserve on the southern outskirts of Pietermaritzburg — an urban green lung protecting KZN thornbush and grassland with a resident population of common reedbuck, bushbuck, vervet monkey and a rich array of raptors and woodland birds. The 10km singletrack loop is one of the most accessible MTB options in the Pietermaritzburg area.
What to Expect
Bush singletrack on moderately rolling terrain through indigenous thornbush and grassland. Technical demands are intermediate — well-suited to riders developing skills on natural terrain. The reserve’s urban proximity means it can be busy on weekend mornings — the shared use with hikers and trail runners requires considerate speed management.
Getting There
Bisley Nature Reserve is south of the Pietermaritzburg city centre. GPS: -29.6312, 30.3734.
