Eston Sugar Cane Loop

Eston sits in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal’s sugar cane farming region — a town surrounded by rolling green hills of sugar cane that represent one of South Africa’s most important agricultural industries. The 30km Sugar Cane Loop follows farm roads through this distinctive agricultural landscape with the Valley of a Thousand Hills visible on the northern horizon and the coastal hinterland rolling terrain throughout.

What to Expect

Gravel farm roads on gently rolling to moderately hilly cane farming terrain. The sugar cane landscape is distinctive and immersive — tall cane on both sides of the road creates enclosed tunnel sections, opening dramatically onto hilltop views across the green valley system below. Avoid the post-harvest burn season when smoke from burning cane fields can be intense.
