Zululand Eco-Trail
Zululand Eco-Lodge sits in the heart of historic Zululand near Ulundi — the former capital of the Zulu Kingdom — in a region of exceptional cultural and natural significance. The 25km Eco-Trail is a guided MTB experience that combines wildlife riding with access to significant Zulu cultural sites in an authentic lowveld landscape rarely visited by tourists.
What to Expect
Bush tracks and singletrack on moderately rolling Zululand lowveld terrain. The guided trail visits wildlife areas — white rhino, nyala, warthog and a remarkable diversity of lowveld birds — and incorporates cultural context about the Zulu Kingdom’s history in this landscape. The guide’s knowledge of both the natural environment and Zulu cultural history adds a depth unique to this trail.
Zululand’s Heritage
Ulundi was the site of the final battle of the Anglo-Zulu War (4 July 1879) — the military and cultural history of the Zulu Kingdom is woven into the landscape throughout the trail. The combination of this historical depth with the wildlife and natural scenery creates one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most distinctive and meaningful MTB experiences.
