Bloemfontein Botanical Garden Loop

The Bloemfontein Botanical Garden Loop offers a gentle 8km ride through one of the Free State capital’s most pleasant green spaces. Managed by SANBI (South African National Biodiversity Institute), the garden’s network of paved paths and dirt tracks wind through themed plant collections, indigenous gardens and shaded lawns — a rare green oasis in the city.

What to Expect

Easy, flat to gently undulating terrain on a mix of paved paths and compacted dirt tracks. The emphasis here is on a relaxed, scenic experience rather than any technical riding challenge. The garden is shared with walkers and families — ride slowly and courteously. The indigenous plant collections and themed garden sections make each lap slightly different.

Practical Notes

Bloemfontein is one of South Africa’s hottest cities in summer — riding before 08:00 or in winter is strongly recommended. Garden opening times vary seasonally — confirm before visiting.
