Buffelspoort Trails
The Buffelspoort Trails wind through the hills above Buffelspoort Dam in the Magaliesberg, about an hour from both Pretoria and Johannesburg. The 15km dam loop and 5km ridge extension follow characteristic Magaliesberg bushveld with excellent views across the reservoir and surrounding mountain scenery.
What to Expect
Terrain combines compacted dirt singletrack and rockier ridge sections as the trail climbs the hills above the dam. Climbs are steady and manageable for intermediate riders, with rewarding views from the high points. The descent back toward the water is flowing and enjoyable. Buffelspoort Dam backed by the Magaliesberg cliffs is one of Gauteng’s most scenic settings.
Getting There
From Pretoria or Johannesburg take the R511 to Hartbeespoort, then the R104 toward Buffelspoort. Park near the dam. GPS: -25.6289, 27.9712.
