Thabaphaswa Green Route
Thabaphaswa Mountain Sanctuary is one of Limpopo’s most distinctive adventure destinations — a working Nguni cattle stud farm 15km from Mokopane where the landscape of granite boulders, mopane bushveld and the dramatic Thabaphaswa Mountain (meaning ‘the mountain of the black and white bull’) has been developed into a network of MTB, hiking and 4×4 trails. The four MTB trails were designed by respected South African trail designer Tim Fair and range from 7km to 20km. The 7km Thabaphaswa Loop is the most accessible option.
What to Expect
Jeep track and singletrack on gently rolling cattle farm terrain with the Thabaphaswa Mountain overhead. The unique boulder-and-mopane landscape, the Nguni cattle herd and the rich birdlife (168 species recorded) create a distinctive riding environment. The overnight accommodation options — particularly the famous Dome Rock glass houses built into granite boulders — make this a memorable MTB destination.
