Musina Baobab Trail

Musina is South Africa’s northernmost town — on the Limpopo River at the Zimbabwe border, surrounded by some of the world’s most impressive baobab trees. The ancient baobabs of the Musina area are among the largest in South Africa — individual specimens estimated at thousands of years old with trunks of extraordinary girth. Riding through the baobab forest on the gravel roads around Musina is one of the most distinctive cycling experiences in South Africa.

What to Expect

Gravel roads and bush tracks on flat to gently rolling Northern Limpopo terrain through baobab forest and mopane bushveld. The ancient baobabs — with their characteristic upside-down-tree appearance and massive, smooth grey trunks — create a riding environment of extraordinary botanical character. Ride at dawn in summer — Musina is one of the hottest places in South Africa and midday heat is dangerous.
