Thabaphaswa Black Route

The Thabaphaswa Lunsklip Loop is the epic long-distance option in Tim Fair’s trail network at this remarkable Waterberg cattle farm — a 38km expert route that leaves the farm’s private trail network and ventures out along rural dirt roads to Ga-Mashashane and the Percy Fyfe Game Reserve before returning to the sanctuary. This is a full-day Waterberg adventure ride through genuinely remote Bushveld terrain with no facilities on the route.

What to Expect

Jeep track and rural gravel roads on expert terrain over 38km of remote Waterberg Bushveld. The Percy Fyfe Game Reserve section adds wildlife interest including game typical of the productive Waterberg — kudu, giraffe, impala and the remarkable birdlife of the Waterberg Biosphere. Self-sufficiency is essential — carry adequate water and food. The 3-day hiking version of this route is also available for those wanting an overnight wilderness experience.
