Hazyview Mac-Mac Pools Ride
Mac-Mac Pools are one of Mpumalanga’s most celebrated natural attractions — a series of deep plunge pools carved into the Mac-Mac River at the base of the Mac-Mac Falls, their name from the many Scottish and Irish gold prospectors with names beginning ‘Mac’ who worked the river during the 1870s Gold Rush. The 20km ride follows forest roads and singletrack to the pools with the added reward of a swim at the turnaround.
What to Expect
Plantation forest roads and singletrack on moderately rolling forest terrain. The forest roads are fast and open through pine and eucalyptus plantation, with the indigenous forest along the Mac-Mac River valley providing a more atmospheric final approach to the pools. The swim at Mac-Mac Pools makes this a complete half-day adventure — pack a towel and food.
