Hekpoort Valley 10km
Hekpoort is a small community on the dirt road that is the only mountain pass between Rustenburg and Hartbeespoort — the Breedtsnek Road through the Magaliesberg. The full Breedtsnek MTB route covers 50–70km, but the 10km option from Sugarbush Hill Cottages provides an accessible introduction to this spectacular mountain terrain. The route takes riders into the switchback sections of the Breedtsnek pass with views of Buffelspoort Dam and Hartbeespoort Dam from the switchbacks.
What to Expect
Dirt road and gravel pass terrain on moderately hilly mountain terrain. The switchback sections are the highlight — steep, gravelled switchbacks with views of both dams from the upper sections. The Breedtsnek Road is a public road, so vehicle awareness is required. Popular as training for the Magalies Monster and similar events in the area.
