Kruin Route 10km

Mountain Sanctuary Park is a privately owned nature reserve deep in the Magaliesberg Mountains — open to the public for over 37 years but deliberately limited in daily visitor numbers to preserve the peace and natural character of this exceptional mountain environment. The 12km bike trail at Mountain Sanctuary forms part of the Magalies Monster race and is described as ‘not for the faint-hearted.’ The reserve sits in the heart of the Magaliesberg, about 1.5 hours from Johannesburg, and the Kruin (Summit) Route represents the technical mountain singletrack core of the riding here.

What to Expect

Rocky quartzite mountain singletrack on difficult terrain — technical, demanding and spectacular. The Magaliesberg’s ancient geology (over 2 billion years old) creates the characteristic hard quartzite rock that makes the singletrack here physically demanding and technically unforgiving. Panoramic summit views from the Kruin sections. Pre-booking is mandatory — day visitor numbers are strictly limited to preserve the reserve’s character.
