St Francis Bay Canal Ride
St Francis Bay is one of the Eastern Cape’s most architecturally distinctive coastal villages — famous for its whitewashed thatched-roof houses, the Kromme River canal system and one of South Africa’s most consistent surf breaks. The 15km Canal Ride follows the canal towpaths and coastal paths through this unique village environment.
What to Expect
Paved paths and canal bank tracks on entirely flat terrain through the canal village and along the ocean beach. Easy, relaxed and highly scenic — the whitewashed buildings reflected in the canal water, the river estuary and the ocean beach create a consistently beautiful riding environment. St Francis Bay’s excellent restaurants and café scene make the post-ride stop exceptional.
Getting There
St Francis Bay is on the R330 between Humansdorp and Jeffreys Bay. GPS: -34.1734, 24.8323.
