Sarah Baartman 30km Outride
The Sarah Baartman District — named for the Khoikhoi woman whose life became a symbol of colonial exploitation and who was returned to South Africa in 2002 — covers the historic settler heartland of the Eastern Cape. The 30km Outride explores the gravel roads through this landscape of rolling midlands hills, stone farm buildings and the working agricultural countryside between Makhanda and the coast.
What to Expect
Gravel farm roads on gently rolling to moderately hilly Eastern Cape midlands terrain. The 1820 Settler farm landscape is characterised by stone walls, thorn trees and the characteristic scrubby vegetation of the Eastern Cape interior. Aloe ferox plants in winter bloom add dramatic orange colour to the roadside.
