Three Rondavels Viewpoint Loop

The Three Rondavels are South Africa’s most iconic canyon formation — three enormous cylindrical rock towers rising from the Blyde River Canyon floor, capped with trees and shaped by millions of years of erosion into forms resembling traditional Ndebele round houses (rondavels). The viewpoint is one of the most photographed in South Africa. The 15km gravel loop follows the canyon rim road to and from this extraordinary geological landmark.

What to Expect

Gravel reserve roads on moderately rolling canyon rim terrain. The Three Rondavels viewpoint is the destination centrepiece — standing on the rim with the 800m canyon drop below and the three towers rising from the canyon floor is a genuinely extraordinary natural experience. Plan for extended time at the viewpoint before the return.
