Sabie Castle Rock Green Trail

The Sabie Castle Rock Green Trail is one of Mpumalanga’s classic advanced circuits — a full-day 45km ride that leaves the Castle Rock campsite following the Sabie River past trout farms and oak plantations to Horseshoe Falls, then climbs a demanding 4km off-road ascent to the Misty Mountain Chalets via the Long Tom Pass forestry station. The views of distant waterfalls and the entire Sabie Valley from near the top make the suffering worthwhile.

What to Expect

Gravel roads and forest tracks on advanced terrain with a demanding 4km off-road climb to the Misty Mountain Chalets at the top. The climb gains approximately 400m and is physically the most demanding section of the Sabie trail network. The return via tar road is not entirely downhill — be prepared for continued effort all the way back to Sabie.

Sabie has one of South Africa’s most passionate local MTB communities — the Sabie Chain-Gang Club and MAMBA have built and maintained this trail network for decades. The community atmosphere, the trail quality and the setting combine to make Sabie arguably the finest MTB destination in the country.
