Sabie Castle Rock Black Trail
The Sabie Castle Rock Black Trail is the apex challenge of the Sabie trail network — a 45km expert route that climbs via the Maritzbos Forest to the Stables hiking hut on the slopes of Mount Anderson, Mpumalanga’s highest peak at 1,900m above sea level. The ride gains approximately 900m from 1,000m at Sabie — the pristine above-treeline flora and fauna, the incredible mountain views and a legendary 15km descent back to town are the reward.
What to Expect
Forest track and technical mountain singletrack on expert mountainous terrain from 1,000m to 1,900m. The above-treeline terrain above the Maritzbos Forest is a completely different environment from the lower forest sections — open, exposed and botanically extraordinary. The descent from the Stables hut to Sabie is one of the finest downhill experiences in Mpumalanga: 15km of fast forest descent with 900m of elevation loss.
